FIRST WEEK

We had a wonderful first week of school.  Here are some of the things we did this week

Reading:  We practice choosing "Just Right Books" and started to work on strategies on how to decode when we get to a word we don't understand.  Our first strategy was "Look at the Pictures".  We review the short and long vowel sounds.  We learned a song and yoga to help us learn theese vowels.  We focused on short "a" sound.

Math:  We worked on adding 10 to numbers and using the 100's chart.  We also worked on "Friends of 10".  If the children learn their "Friends of 10"  they will be able to solve math problems much easier.  We made a book mark for our math workbook with 10 beads on it to help us learn our "Friends of 10" better.

Social Studies:  We started to fill out our passports and talked about how our house is in a neighborhood, that is by our school, that is in a community, that is in the state of Utah, that is in the United States of America, that is the continent of North America that is in the world.  We made a model of our house and a floor plan of our using Modeling Clay.

Science:  Our caterpillars came earlier than we were prepared for so we quickly started our journal and will do more next week.
